Margaret J. Wheatley (b.1944) is an American organizational consultant and speaker renowned for her pioneering contributions to leadership and systems thinking.

Born in Clarkston, Michigan, Wheatley obtained her B.A. from the University of Rochester in 1966, followed by an M.A. in Media Ecology from New York University in 1974. Later, she pursued her Doctorate at Harvard University, which she completed in 1979. She served as an urban education administrator in New York and volunteered with the Peace Corps in Korea. Additionally, she held positions as an Associate Professor of Management at the Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University, and Cambridge College, Massachusetts.

Wheatley’s groundbreaking book, Leadership and the New Science (1992,) introduced revolutionary concepts that revolutionized how we perceive organizational dynamics. Wheatley provided valuable insights on cultivating sustainable and adaptable organizations by advocating for self-organization, emergence, and interconnectedness.
