Lou Diamond Phillips (b.1962,) né Upchurch, is an American actor, director, and writer, best known for La Bamba (1987,) Stand and Deliver (1988,) and Young Guns (1988.) His career spans film, television, and theater, earning critical acclaim.

Born at Subic Bay Naval Base, Philippines, he was raised in Texas and earned a BFA in Drama from the University of Texas-Arlington. His breakthrough came with La Bamba, followed by his Golden Globe-nominated role in Stand and Deliver.
