Inspirational Quotes by Leon Rene Yankwich (American Judge)

Leon Rene Yankwich (1888–1975) was a Romanian-American jurist, best known as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of California (1935–64) and later the Central District of California (1966–75.) His rulings influenced civil rights, copyright law, and judicial precedent.

Born in Iași, Romania, Yankwich immigrated to the United States, earning an LLB from Willamette University College of Law (1909) and a J.D. from Loyola Law School (1926.) He practiced law in Modesto and Los Angeles, briefly serving as a U.S. Army sergeant in World War I (1918) before becoming a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge (1927–35.)

Appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he presided over landmark cases, including Lopez v. Seccombe (1944,) which struck down segregation against Mexican Americans in public facilities, and Cain v. Universal Pictures (1942,) setting a precedent in copyright law.

His notable publications include It’s Libel or Contempt If You Print It (1950,) examining press freedom and legal boundaries, and The Nature of Our Freedom (1955,) discussing constitutional liberties.
