Katrina Elizabeth DiCamillo (b.1964) is an American author known for her award-winning children’s books that resonate with readers of all ages. Her books commonly confront themes of loss, but the protagonists—who range from a lonely girl in Florida to a lost porcelain rabbit—find redemption and joy in discovering life’s meaning.

Born in Merion, Pennsylvania, DiCamillo grew up in Florida. She gained literary recognition with her début novel, Because of Winn-Dixie (2000,) which won the Newbery Honor and became a bestseller. This heartwarming tale of a young girl named Opal and her dog touched readers with its poignant storytelling and themes of friendship and belonging.
