Inspirational Quotes by Judith Rossner (American Novelist)

Judith Rossner (1935–2005,) born Judith Louise Perelman, was an American novelist known for her psychological and feminist explorations of relationships and societal expectations. Her work often examined identity, loneliness, and personal transformation.

Born in New York City, Rossner grew up in the Bronx and attended City College of New York before leaving to marry Robert Rossner, a teacher and writer. While pursuing her writing career, she worked various jobs before publishing her début novel, To the Precipice (1966,) about a young woman’s escape from poverty through marriage.

She gained national recognition with Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1975,) based on the real-life murder of Roseann Quinn, exploring sexual liberation and danger. A bestseller, it was adapted into a 1977 film starring Diane Keaton. She later wrote August (1983,) about a woman’s relationship with her psychoanalyst, and Emmeline (1980,) a historical novel about a girl forced into marriage.

Her later works, Attachments (1989,) Perfidia (1997,) and His Little Women (1990,) continued her exploration of complex female characters.
