Joslin “Josh” McDowell (b.1939) is an evangelical Christian apologist, author, and speaker, known for defending Christianity through historical and philosophical arguments. He has written or co-authored over 150 books, shaping Christian apologetics worldwide.
Born in Union City, Michigan, McDowell initially pursued legal studies, intending to enter politics. However, his research into Christianity’s historical foundations led to his conversion. He later studied at Wheaton College and Talbot Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity.
His most famous work, Evidence That Demands a Verdict (1972,) was ranked among Christianity Today‘s most influential evangelical books. Other notable publications include More Than a Carpenter (1977,) A Ready Defense (1993,) Right from Wrong (1994,) and The Beauty of Intolerance (2016,) focusing on apologetics, morality, and youth guidance.
Since 1964, McDowell has been a speaker for Campus Crusade for Christ, addressing college audiences on faith, relationships, and ethics. His ministry expanded globally, influencing millions through lectures, books, and digital content.
