Rev. John Welsh Dulles (1823–1887) was an American Presbyterian minister. He was the grandfather of Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and intelligence officer Allen Welsh Dulles.
Born in Philadelphia, Dulles attended Yale College, the University of Pennsylvania, and entered the Union Theological Seminary in 1846. He briefly served as a missionary in Madras, South India, and returned to America in 1853 after a loss of voice. Unable to preach, he served as an administrator at the American Sunday School Union and later became Secretary and the Editor of the Presbyterian Publication Committee’s publications. He achieved the degree of Doctor of Divinity in 1871.
Dulles’s publications include Life in India (1855) and The Ride through Palestine (1881.)
