John Singer Sargent (1856–1925) was an American expatriate painter, renowned for his elegant portraits and masterful technique. He was the leading portrait artist of his generation, capturing Edwardian-era luxury and sophistication.
Born in Florence, Italy, to American parents, Sargent trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Carolus-Duran.
