Jane Roberts (1929–84,) fully Dorothy Jane Roberts, was an American author, poet, and self-proclaimed psychic best known for the Seth Material, a series she claimed to have channeled from an entity named Seth. Her writings shaped the New Age movement, influencing spiritual and metaphysical thought.

Born in Albany, New York, Roberts grew up in Saratoga Springs. She studied art and literature at Skidmore College. In the early 1960s, she experimented with automatic writing, leading to her purported contact with Seth and her most famous book, The Seth Material (1970,) introducing Seth’s teachings on consciousness and reality.

Roberts authored books expanding Seth’s philosophy, including Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul (1972,) The Nature of Personal Reality (1974,) The “Unknown” Reality (1977–79,) The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events (1981,) and Dreams, Evolution, and Value Fulfillment (1986.) She also wrote fiction, such as The Education of Oversoul Seven (1973) and The Further Education of Oversoul Seven (1979,) blending metaphysical themes with storytelling.
