Jane Cahill Pfeiffer (1932–2019,) born Jane Pennington Cahill, was an American business executive best known as the first female chairwoman of NBC (1978–80.) Her career spanned technology, media, and government, making her a trailblazer for women in corporate leadership.
Born in Washington, D.C., Pfeiffer earned a B.A. in speech and drama from the University of Maryland (1954) and pursued graduate studies in philosophy at Georgetown University and Catholic University (1956–57.) She briefly entered a Roman Catholic novitiate before shifting to business.
Pfeiffer joined IBM in 1955 as a systems engineer trainee, later becoming vice president. In 1966, she became the first female White House Fellow, working on housing policy under President Lyndon B. Johnson. She later moved to NBC, where she restructured leadership and operations.
