James Oliver Cromwell (b.1940) is an American actor and social activist known for his versatile performances in film and television. With a career spanning over five decades, he has earned an Academy Award nomination and multiple Emmy nods.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Cromwell studied architecture at Carnegie Mellon University before pursuing acting. He gained recognition as Stretch Cunningham in All in the Family (1974–75) and starred in Babe (1995,) L.A. Confidential (1997,) The Green Mile (1999,) The Queen (2006,) and The Artist (2011.) His television work includes Six Feet Under (2003–05,) American Horror Story: Asylum (2012–13,) and Succession (2018–23.)
