Ingrid Bergman (1915–82) was a Swedish stage and film actress known for her exceptional talent and significant contributions to cinema. She achieved worldwide fame and became one of her era’s most acclaimed and beloved stars.

Born in Stockholm, Bergman developed a passion for acting at a young age. She received her education at the Royal Dramatic Theatre School in Stockholm and débuted professionally in 1935.

Bergman’s breakthrough came when she starred in the Swedish film Intermezzo (1936,) which grabbed the attention of Hollywood. Her career in Hollywood skyrocketed with remarkable performances in films such as Casablanca (1942,) Gaslight (1944,) and Notorious (1946.) She received numerous accolades throughout her career, including three Academy Awards for Best Actress, making her one of the most decorated actors in Oscar history.

While enjoying professional success, Bergman faced personal controversy when she engaged in an extramarital affair with Italian director Roberto Rossellini. This scandal caused a temporary setback in her career. Still, she ultimately made a triumphant comeback, delivering exceptional performances in films like Anastasia (1956) and Autumn Sonata (1978.)
