Helen Mary Caldicott (b.1938,) née Broinowski, is an Australian physician, author, and anti-nuclear advocate known for her activism against nuclear weapons and environmental hazards. For decades, she has educated the public on nuclear technology’s medical and ecological consequences.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Caldicott earned an M.D. from the University of Adelaide (1961,) specializing in pediatrics. She founded the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at Adelaide Children’s Hospital (1975) before shifting to anti-nuclear activism. In 1971, she helped lead Australia’s opposition to French nuclear testing in the Pacific.

Her influential books include Nuclear Madness: What You Can Do!
