Hayley Atwell (b.1982) is a British-American actress known for her versatile performances in period dramas, action films, and theater.
Born in London, Atwell studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 2005. She gained early recognition in BBC miniseries and West End productions, including The Line of Beauty (2006) and Mansfield Park (2007.)
She rose to prominence as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, débuting in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and reprising the role in Agent Carter (2015–16.) She also starred in period films such as Brideshead Revisited (2008,) The Duchess (2008,) and The Pillars of the Earth (2010,) earning a Golden Globe nomination for the latter.
Her theater work includes The Pride (2013) and Rosmersholm (2019,) both earning Laurence Olivier Award nominations. She also appeared in fantasy films like Cinderella (2015) and Christopher Robin (2018.)
