Inspirational Quotes by Harold Robbins (American Novelist)

Harold Robbins (1916–97,) born Harold Rubin, also known as Francis Kane, was an American novelist known for his fast-paced, sensational storytelling. He wrote over 25 bestsellers, selling more than 750 million copies in 32 languages, popularizing a provocative style focused on Hollywood stars and glamorous criminals.

Born in Manhattan, New York City, Robbins claimed to have dropped out of high school at 15, leaving his foster parents to work as an inventory clerk. During the Depression, he bought crops, sold options to canning companies, and traded canning contracts with wholesale grocers. By 20, he was a millionaire, but speculative investments in sugar before World War II led to financial ruin.

He later joined Universal Pictures, gaining insights into Hollywood that shaped his writing. His début novel, Never Love a Stranger (1948,) stirred controversy for its explicit content. He followed with The Dream Merchants (1949) on the film industry’s rise. His breakthrough novel, A Stone for Danny Fisher (1952,) was adapted into the Elvis Presley film King Creole (1958.)

His most famous work, The Carpetbaggers (1961,) loosely based on Howard Hughes, became a bestseller, spawning the sequel The Raiders (1995.) Other notable novels include Where Love Has Gone (1962,) The Adventurers (1966,) The Betsy (1971,) and The Pirate (1974.) His later works, The Predators (1995) and Tycoon (1996,) continued his tradition of high-stakes drama.
