Inspirational Quotes by Harold Caccia, Baron Caccia (British Diplomat)

Harold Anthony Caccia, Baron Caccia (1905–90,) was a British diplomat known for his key roles in international relations and government service. As Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (1962–65,) he shaped British foreign policy during the Cold War.

Born in Pachmarhi Cantonment, British India, now in in Madhya Pradesh state, Caccia was educated at Eton College and Trinity College-Oxford, excelling in rugby and cricket. He joined the Foreign Office (1929,) holding posts in Peking, Athens, and London. During World War II, he worked with Harold Macmillan at Allied headquarters in North Africa, later advising British forces in Greece.

Caccia served as British Ambassador to Austria (1951–54) and the United States (1956–61,) playing a crucial role in repairing Anglo-American relations after the Suez Crisis and strengthening the UK-U.S. alliance.

After retiring, he became Provost of Eton College (1965–78) and held leadership roles in finance, industry, and education. Knighted and given peerage, he became Baron Caccia in 1965.
