Grace Noll Crowell (1877–1969) was an American poet and author known for her uplifting verse. She wrote about 5,000 poems, many published in magazines and newspapers.
Born in Inland Township, Iowa, Crowell attended the German-English College in Wilton, earning a B.A. (1901.) She began writing poetry at eight but pursued it seriously after a severe illness (1906,) shaping her themes of hope and resilience.
Her first collection, White Fire (1925,) won the Texas Poetry Society’s first prize. Named Poet Laureate of Texas (1935) and National Honor Poet (1938,) she published over 35 books, including poetry, children’s stories, and devotionals. Songs for Courage saw twenty-five printings. Her final work, God’s Masterpieces, was published before her death, followed by Let the Sun Shine In (1970.)
