Inspirational Quotes by Grace Moore (American Soprano)

Grace Moore (1898–1947,) fully Mary Willie Grace Moore, was an American operatic soprano and actress known as the “Tennessee Nightingale” for her contributions to opera and film. She helped bring opera into mainstream entertainment, bridging classical music and Hollywood.

Born in Cocke County, Tennessee, Moore studied music in Nashville before moving to New York City to train at the Metropolitan Opera. She débuted in 1928, performing in Puccini’s La Bohème, becoming a leading soprano.

Moore transitioned to film, starring in A Lady’s Morals (1930,) One Night of Love (1934,) which earned her an Academy Award nomination, The King Steps Out (1936,) and I’ll Take Romance (1937.) Her performances introduced opera to wider audiences, cementing her as a cultural icon. She tragically died in a Copenhagen plane crash (1947.)

Her autobiography, You’re Only Human Once (1944,) recounts her life, career, and artistic philosophy. Her film biography, So This Is Love (1953,) stars Kathryn Grayson.
