Giorgio Armani (1934–2025) was an Italian fashion designer renowned for his minimalist, elegant designs that revolutionized menswear and luxury fashion. He founded Giorgio Armani S.p.A., one of the world’s most successful independent fashion houses.
Born in Piacenza, Italy, Armani initially pursued medicine at the University of Milan but left for fashion retail. He began as a window dresser and menswear designer at La Rinascente and Nino Cerruti before launching his label in 1975 with Sergio Galeotti. His unstructured jackets and tailored silhouettes redefined menswear, earning global recognition.
Armani expanded into women’s fashion, accessories, fragrances, and home interiors, creating Emporio Armani, Armani Exchange, and Armani Casa. His designs became synonymous with Hollywood glamour, dressing stars like Richard Gere in American Gigolo (1980.) Armani received numerous accolades, including the CFDA International Award (1987) and Italy’s highest honor, Cavaliere di Gran Croce (2008.)
