Inspirational Quotes by George Fabricius (German Poet)

Georg Fabricius (1516–71,) born Georg Goldschmidt, was a German poet, historian, and archaeologist recognized for his contributions to Latin literature during the German Renaissance. His works explored classical antiquity, religious themes, and historical documentation.

Born in Chemnitz, Saxony, Fabricius studied at the University of Leipzig. He became rector of Saint Afra in Meissen (1546,) promoting music and scholarship. His travels in Italy deepened his interest in Roman antiquities, leading to significant contributions in epigraphy.

Fabricius published Roma (1551,) a detailed study of Roman inscriptions. His poetry collections include Odarum Libri Tres ad Deum Omnipotentem (1552) and Poematum Sacrorum Libri XXV (1560,) emphasizing Christian themes while avoiding pagan references. His scholarly works—Antiquitatum Libri II (1549,) De Re Poetica Libri Septem (1565,) and Rerum Misnicarum Libri Septem (1569)—reflect his deep engagement with classical and historical studies.

A pioneer in linking archaeology with legal and literary scholarship, Fabricius influenced future studies of Roman antiquity. His writings were set to music by composers Johann Walter and Antonio Scandello.
