Gay Talese (b.1932) is an American journalist and author, recognized as a pioneer of New Journalism, a literary style blending reporting with narrative storytelling. His works examine power, celebrity, and human behavior, offering deep insights into American culture.

Born in Ocean City, New Jersey, Talese studied journalism at the University of Alabama (B.A., 1953) before joining The New York Times as a reporter (1956–65.) His feature writing for Esquire in the 1960s, including Frank Sinatra Has a Cold (1966,) set a new standard for literary nonfiction.
