Gabriel Cousens (b.1943,) originally Kenneth Gabriel Cousens, is an American holistic physician, homeopath, and spiritual teacher known for his advocacy of raw food nutrition, diabetes reversal, and integrative healing. His work blends Western medicine, Eastern spirituality, and nutritional science.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Cousens studied biology at Amherst College (1965) and earned his M.D. from Columbia Medical School (1969.) After completing his psychiatry residency (1973,) he shifted toward alternative medicine and spiritual practices, legally changing his name in 1976.
He founded the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center (1994) in Patagonia, Arizona, offering fasting, detox programs, and raw food education. He also established the Essene Order of Light (1992,) blending Jewish Kabbalah, Torah teachings, and holistic spirituality.
His notable publications include Spiritual Nutrition: Six Foundations for Spiritual Life and the Awakening of Kundalini (2005,) exploring diet and consciousness; There Is a Cure for Diabetes (2008,) presenting a plant-based approach to diabetes reversal; and Creating Peace by Being Peace (2008,) integrating meditation and holistic healing. His memoir, Into the Nothing: A Spiritual Autobiography (2020,) reflects on his journey toward enlightenment.
