Inspirational Quotes by Friedrich Wilhelm Ziegler (German Dramatist, Actor)

Friedrich Wilhelm Ziegler (1758–1827) was a German actor and playwright known for his contributions to theater and dramatic literature in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His works were widely performed in Vienna and other German-speaking regions, shaping popular theatrical traditions.

Born in Braunschweig, Germany, Ziegler began his acting career in Hamm (1778) before moving to Vienna, where he gained the attention of Emperor Joseph II. A resident actor at the Burgtheater (1781–1822,) he performed heroic, tyrannical, and character roles. Though not a leading actor, he remained a prominent figure in Viennese theater.

A prolific playwright, he competed with August Wilhelm Iffland and August von Kotzebue. Notable works include Liebhaber und Nebenbuhler in einer Person (1790, Lover and Rival in One Person,) which later inspired Albert Lortzing’s opera Der Waffenschmied, Der Hausdoktor (1798, The House Doctor,) Die vier Temperamente (1823, The Four Temperaments,) and Parteiwut (1813, Party Rage,) a widely performed drama. His collected dramatic works were published in Vienna (13 vols., 1824; second edition, 1838.)
