Frederick Hertz (1878–1964,) born Friedrich (Otto) Hertz, was a British sociologist, economist, and historian of Austrian origin, known for his studies on race, nationality, and economic policy. His work contributed to early 20th-century discussions on nationalism and social structures.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Hertz studied law and economics at the University of Vienna, earning a PhD (1903) with a dissertation on Austro-Hungarian financial policy. He worked as a freelance writer and editor, later serving as a counselor at the Austrian Federal Chancellery (1918–30,) focusing on international relations.

A professor of world economy and sociology at the University of Halle-Wittenberg (1930–33,) he was dismissed after the Nazi takeover. He fled to London in 1938, became a British citizen in 1946, and continued his academic work.

His notable publications include Modern Theories of Race (1904,) Race and Civilization (1915,) Nationality in History and Politics (1944,) The Economic Problem of the Danubian States (1947,) and The Development of the German Public Mind (1957–62.) His works examined race, nationalism, and economic structures.
