Inspirational Quotes by Frederick H. Scrivener (British Biblical Scholar)

Frederick Henry Ambrose Scrivener (1813–91) was an English biblical scholar, textual critic, and theologian, best known for his work on New Testament manuscripts and the Textus Receptus. His contributions to biblical textual criticism shaped modern understanding of Greek manuscripts.

Born in Bermondsey, England, Scrivener studied at Trinity College-Cambridge, graduating in 1835. He worked as a classics teacher before becoming headmaster of Falmouth School (1846–56) and later rector of Gerrans, Cornwall.

A staunch advocate of the Byzantine text tradition, he opposed the textual theories of Westcott and Hort. His meticulous comparisons of Greek manuscripts influenced biblical scholarship.

Notable works include A Plain Introduction to the Criticism of the New Testament (1861,) a standard reference in textual criticism; Six Lectures on the Text of the New Testament (1875,) examining ancient manuscripts; and The Cambridge Paragraph Bible (1873,) revising the King James Bible. He also published Adversaria Critica Sacra (1893,) a critical study of biblical texts.
