Inspirational Quotes by Francois Villon (French Poet)

François Villon (c.1431–s63,) originally François de Montcorbier or François des Loges, was a French poet known for his lyrical and satirical verse and tumultuous life of crime and exile. Considered one of the greatest poets of the Late Middle Ages, he blended humor, irony, and personal reflection.

Born in Paris, Villon was raised by Guillaume de Villon, a chaplain who provided his education. He earned a Master of Arts from the University of Paris (1452.) Despite academic success, he became entangled in crime, leading to multiple imprisonments and banishments.

His poetry, shaped by poverty, exile, and mortality, includes Le Lais (1456, The Legacy,) a mock testament satirizing Parisian society, and Le Testament (1461, The Grand Testament,) his most famous work, reflecting on life, fate, and human folly. His ballades and rondeaux, such as Ballade des pendus (1463, Ballad of the Hanged,) showcase his dark wit and existential themes.

Villon vanished after 1463 following his final banishment from Paris. His mystery and rebellious spirit cemented his place in French literature.
