Inspirational Quotes by Felix Riesenberg (American Navigator)

Felix Riesenberg (1879–1939) was an American maritime officer, explorer, and author known for his contributions to nautical education and literature. His works provided insight into maritime life, navigation, and historical seafaring.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he graduated from New York Nautical School (1897) and served as a deck officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine. He participated in Walter Wellman’s failed North Pole airship expeditions (1906, 1907) and later earned a civil engineering degree from Columbia University (1913,) working as a civil engineer and maritime administrator.

A prolific writer, Riesenberg published technical manuals and maritime fiction. Notable works include Under Sail: A Boy’s Voyage Around Cape Horn (1918,) a memoir of his early seafaring experiences; Standard Seamanship for the Merchant Service (1922,) a widely used nautical textbook; East Side, West Side (1927,) a novel adapted into a film; Shipmates: Sketches of the Sea (1928;) and The Maiden Voyage (1931,) a historical maritime account. His memoir, Living Again (1937,) reflected on his life at sea and beyond.
