Inspirational Quotes by David Mccord (American Poet)

David Thompson Watson McCord (1897–1997) was an American poet, essayist, and fundraiser, best known for his children’s poetry and contributions to Harvard University.

Born in New York City, McCord grew up in Portland, Oregon, attending Lincoln High School. He later earned three degrees from Harvard University, including a B.A. in physics (1921) and an M.A. in romance languages (1922.) As executive director of the Harvard College Fund (1925–63,) he raised millions for the university.

McCord’s poetry is known for its playful language, wit, and themes of nature and childhood. His first collection, Oddly Enough (1926,) was followed by Far and Few: Rhymes of the Never Was and Always Is (1952,) Odds Without Ends (1954,) Take Sky (1962,) Every Time I Climb a Tree (1967,) The Star in the Pail (1975,) and One at a Time (1977,) a finalist for the National Book Award in Children’s Literature.

His essays include The Camp at Lockjaw (1952) and In Sight of Sever: Essays from Harvard (1963.) He also edited What Cheer: An Anthology of American and British Humorous Verse (1945.)
