David Guy Myers (b.1942) is an American social psychologist. A professor of psychology at Hope College in Michigan, he has authored 17 books, including popular textbooks. Myers is widely recognized for his research on happiness and is one of the supporters of the positive psychology movement.
Born in Seattle, Washington, Myers graduated with a B.A. from Whitworth College 1964; and earned an M.A. and a PhD from the University of Iowa 1966 and 1967. He has taught at Hope College in Michigan since 1967.
Myers has authored several popular textbooks in psychology, including Exploring Psychology (1990,) and Social Psychology (1983,) which have been widely used in college courses around the world. His other works include Pursuit of Happiness (1990,) Psychology in Everyday Life (2008,) and How Do We Know Ourselves? (2022.)
Myers has also written numerous articles and papers on social psychology, personality psychology, and well-being. In addition to his contributions to the field of psychology, Myers is known for his advocacy work on issues related to climate change and global sustainability.
