Dan Gardner is a Canadian author, journalist, and consultant known for his work on psychology, decision-making, and risk analysis. His books examine how people perceive and respond to uncertainty, influencing business, policy, and forecasting.
Gardner holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and an M.A. in modern history from York University. Before becoming an author, he was a newspaper columnist and investigative journalist, winning multiple Canadian journalism awards. He later transitioned to consulting and public speaking, advising governments, corporations, and financial institutions on decision-making and risk management.
Notable works include Risk: The Science and Politics of Fear (2008,) exploring how fear shapes public perception and policy; Future Babble: Why Expert Predictions Fail and Why We Believe Them Anyway (2010,) critiquing expert forecasts; and Superforecasting: The Art and Science of Prediction (2015,) co-authored with Philip Tetlock, which examines how individuals refine predictive skills. His latest book, How Big Things Get Done (2023,) co-written with Bent Flyvbjerg, covers project planning and execution.
