Inspirational Quotes by Cookie Lavagetto (American Sportsperson)

Cookie Lavagetto (1912–90,) born Harry Arthur Lavagetto, was an American baseball player, coach, and manager, best known for his clutch performance in the 1947 World Series. A four-time National League All-Star (1938–41,) he played third base for the Pittsburgh Pirates before rising to prominence with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Born in Oakland, California, Lavagetto began his professional career with the Oakland Oaks (1933,) débuting in MLB with the Pirates (1934.) He joined the Dodgers (1936) and helped them win the National League pennant (1941.) His career was interrupted by World War II, during which he served in the U.S. Navy.

His defining moment came in Game 4 of the 1947 World Series, breaking Yankees pitcher Bill Bevens’ near no-hitter with a walk-off double. After retiring as a player, he coached and managed the Washington Senators (1957–60) and the Minnesota Twins (1961.)
