Christian Lous Lange (1869–1938) was a Norwegian historian, political scientist, and peace advocate, recognized for his contributions to internationalism and diplomacy. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (1921,) he promoted global cooperation.
Born in Stavanger, Norway, Lange studied history, English, and French at the University of Oslo, earning his degree (1893.) He initially taught before entering international affairs, appointed secretary for the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference in Oslo (1899.)
As secretary-general of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (1909–33,) he expanded its reach and promoted peaceful conflict resolution. He also served as a League of Nations delegate, focusing on disarmament and arbitration. His intellectual contributions include Histoire de l’internationalisme (1919,) a three-volume analysis of internationalism’s history.
