Charles J. Wheelan (b.1966) is an American economist, professor, journalist, and author known for his accessible writing on economics, statistics, and public policy. A senior lecturer and policy fellow at Dartmouth College’s Rockefeller Center, he teaches courses on education, health care, tax policy, and income inequality. He also co-chairs Unite America, an organization promoting centrist political solutions.

Wheelan earned his B.A. from Dartmouth College, an M.P.A. from Princeton University, and a PhD in public policy from the University of Chicago. He previously worked as a correspondent for The Economist (1997–2002) and wrote for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Yahoo! Finance.

Notable works include Naked Economics: Undressing the Dismal Science (2002,) simplifying economic concepts, Naked Statistics: Stripping the Dread from the Data (2013,) making statistics more approachable, and Naked Money: A Revealing Look at What It Is and Why It Matters (2016,) exploring money’s role in the economy.
