Inspirational Quotes by Cary T. Grayson (American Naval Surgeon)

Cary Travers Grayson (1878–1938) was an American physician, naval officer, and presidential aide, best known as President Woodrow Wilson’s personal physician. His career spanned medicine, military service, and humanitarian leadership, shaping early 20th-century healthcare and diplomacy.

Born in Salubria, Virginia, Grayson earned an M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia (1904) and joined the U.S. Navy as an assistant surgeon. He became White House physician (1913–21,) advising Wilson during World War I and the Treaty of Versailles negotiations. His close relationship with Wilson led to his appointment as Rear Admiral (1916.)

Grayson helped conceal the severity of Wilson’s 1919 stroke, influencing U.S. political history. After Wilson’s presidency, he chaired the American Red Cross (1935–38,) overseeing disaster relief and medical aid programs.

His publications include The Health of the Presidents (1927,) Our Overworked Presidents (1924,) and The Human Side of Woodrow Wilson (1924.) His articles on public health and presidential wellness appeared in Liberty Magazine, The Atlantic Monthly, and Ladies’ Home Journal.
