Buddy Hackett (1924–2003,) born Leonard Hacker, was an American comedian and actor known for his distinctive voice, quick wit, and improvisational humor. Over five decades, he became a beloved figure in stand-up, television, and film, headlining Las Vegas comedy shows well into his later years.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Hackett developed his comedic style performing in Catskills resorts before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Afterward, he pursued professional comedy, gaining fame in nightclubs and variety shows like The Tonight Show and The Ed Sullivan Show, where his sharp humor made him a favorite.

His film career included standout performances in The Music Man (1962,) It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963,) and The Love Bug (1968.) He later voiced Scuttle in Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989.) Beyond acting, he authored The Truth About Golf (1996,) a humorous take on the sport.
