Inspirational Quotes by Bruce R. McConkie (American Mormon Religious Leader)

Bruce Redd McConkie (1915–85) was an American religious leader, theologian, and author who served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1972 until his passing. Known for his doctrinal writings, he significantly influenced LDS theology.

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, McConkie grew up in Monticello and later Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah, earning a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor. In 1937, he married Amelia Smith, daughter of Joseph Fielding Smith, who later became LDS Church president.

McConkie’s church leadership began in 1946 when he joined the First Council of the Seventy, serving until his 1972 appointment to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. A prolific writer, he published several influential books, including Mormon Doctrine (1958,) The Messiah Series (1978–82,) Doctrinal New Testament Commentary (1965–73,) and A New Witness for the Articles of Faith (1985.) He also wrote chapter headings for the LDS Church’s 1979–81 editions of the standard works. His teachings, particularly Mormon Doctrine, were sometimes controversial due to their authoritative tone, but his writings remain widely studied in LDS theology.
