William Hybels (b.1951) is an American pastor, author, and leadership speaker, best known as the founder and former senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church. He played a key role in modern evangelical leadership, pioneering seeker-sensitive church models.
Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Hybels studied Biblical Studies at Trinity International University. In 1975, he founded Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, which became one of the largest churches in America, emphasizing practical, engaging worship.
He also founded the Global Leadership Summit, an annual event bringing leaders together to discuss faith-based leadership strategies. In 2018, Hybels resigned from Willow Creek Community Church after misconduct allegations, which he denied.
Hybels authored numerous books on Christian leadership, faith, and personal growth, including Too Busy Not to Pray (1988,) Courageous Leadership (2002,) Just Walk Across the Room (2006,) and Simplify: Ten Practices to Unclutter Your Soul (2014.) His works focus on spiritual discipline, leadership, and evangelism.
