Bernard Meltzer

Bernard C. Meltzer (1916–98) was an American radio host. His popular call-in program, What’s Your Problem?, aired from 1967 to the mid-1990s on stations in Philadelphia and New York, including WCAU-AM, WPEN-AM, WOR-AM, and WEVD-AM, and was nationally syndicated via NBC Talknet.

Born in Manhattan, Meltzer trained as a city planner, earning a civil engineering degree from City College of New York and a master’s from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Initially focused on urban issues in Philadelphia, he later transitioned to radio, becoming a personality on WCAU. In 1973, his show moved to WOR in New York, where it achieved top ratings among adults in its time slot.

Meltzer provided guidance on a wide range of topics, from finance and home improvement to personal dilemmas involving family, parenting, and relationships. Known for his distinctive, soothing voice, he often shared aphorisms and moralizing poetry with listeners.

His notable works include Guidance for Living (1982,) a collection of his insights, featuring poems, proverbs, observations, and practical advice. In Bernard Meltzer Solves Your Money Problems (1983,) he offered strategies on borrowing, buying, and investing to navigate economic inflation.
