Ben Dylan Aaronovitch (b.1964) is an English author and screenwriter best known for his urban fantasy series Rivers of London. His work blends crime, magic, and humor, earning him a dedicated following in contemporary fantasy.
Born in Camden, London, Aaronovitch worked various jobs before moving into television writing. He wrote two Doctor Who serials, Remembrance of the Daleks (1988) and Battlefield (1989,) along with spin-off novels and audio dramas for Doctor Who and Blake’s 7.
His fiction breakthrough came with Rivers of London (2011,) the first in a series following police officer and wizard-in-training Peter Grant. The series includes Moon Over Soho (2011,) Whispers Under Ground (2012,) Broken Homes (2013,) Foxglove Summer (2014,) The Hanging Tree (2016,) Lies Sleeping (2018,) False Value (2020,) and Amongst Our Weapons (2022.)
Aaronovitch has also written graphic novels expanding the Rivers of London universe. He founded the Future Worlds Prize to support underrepresented voices in science fiction and fantasy.
