Barbara Hershey (b.1948,) originally Barbara Lynn Herzstein, is an American actress known for her versatility in film and television. Over five decades, she has earned critical acclaim and numerous awards.

Born in Hollywood, California, Hershey began acting at 17, débuting in the TV series Gidget (1965.) She gained recognition with Boxcar Bertha (1972) and The Stunt Man (1980.) Her performances in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986,) Shy People (1987,) and A World Apart (1988) won Best Actress awards at the Cannes Film Festival.

She received Golden Globe nominations for The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) and The Portrait of a Lady (1996,) the latter earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She won an Emmy and Golden Globe for A Killing in a Small Town (1990.)
