Archibald Alexander Hodge (1823–86) was an American Presbyterian theologian and educator known for his contributions to systematic theology and leadership at Princeton Theological Seminary. A leading figure in Reformed theology, he advocated biblical inerrancy and doctrinal orthodoxy.

Born in Princeton, New Jersey, he was the son of theologian Charles Hodge and named after his father’s mentor, Archibald Alexander. He graduated from Princeton College (1841) and later studied at Princeton Theological Seminary, completing his theological training in 1847.

Hodge served as a missionary in India (1847–50) before returning to the U.S. for pastoral roles in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. In 1864, he became professor of systematic theology at Western Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh. In 1877, he joined Princeton Theological Seminary, succeeding his father as chair of systematic theology in 1878 and later becoming principal.

His influential works include Outlines of Theology (1860,) a widely used textbook, and The Atonement (1867,) which examined salvation doctrine. He co-authored Inspiration (1880) with B. B. Warfield, a foundational biblical theology text. His biography of his father, The Life of Charles Hodge (1881,) remains a key historical account.
