Inspirational Quotes by Ammon Hennacy (American Pacifist)

Ammon Ashford Hennacy (1893–1970) was an American Christian anarchist, pacifist, and social activist known for his commitment to nonviolence, tax resistance, and advocacy for the poor.

Born in Negley, Ohio, he was raised in a Quaker and Baptist household. He studied at Hiram College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ohio State University but did not complete a degree. During World War I, he refused to register for the draft, leading to two years of imprisonment, where he embraced Christian anarchism and pacifism.

Hennacy joined the Catholic Worker Movement, working alongside Dorothy Day to promote social justice and nonviolent resistance. He founded the Joe Hill House of Hospitality in Salt Lake City, providing shelter and fostering self-sufficiency.

Notable works include The Book of Ammon (1970,) an autobiographical account of his activism, and One-Man Revolution in America (1970,) detailing his philosophy and resistance efforts. A dedicated tax resister, Hennacy refused to pay federal taxes funding war. He engaged in hunger strikes, protests, and direct action, advocating for peace, justice, and personal responsibility.
