Alvin Eugene Toffler (1928–2016) was an American futurist, author, and social theorist known for his analysis of the transformative effects of technological and societal change. His work explored the implications of rapid advancements, particularly in information and communication systems, shaping discussions on the future of business, governance, and culture.

Born in New York City to Polish Jewish immigrants, Toffler graduated from New York University in 1950 with a degree in English. He began his career as an associate editor at Fortune magazine, where he examined emerging technologies and their influence on modern life.

His seminal book Future Shock (1970) introduced the concept of “future shock,” describing the anxiety caused by rapid societal changes and “information overload.” The Third Wave (1980) examined the shift from an industrial society to an information-based economy. In Powershift: Knowledge, Wealth, and Violence (1990,) he explored the growing role of information as the primary source of power.
