Inspirational Quotes by Alexander Cairncross (British Economist)

Sir Alexander Kirkland Cairncross (1911–98) was a British economist, government adviser, and academic known for his contributions to economic policy, development, and historical analysis. He shaped British economic strategy in the mid-20th century.

Born in Lesmahagow, Scotland, Cairncross studied economics at Glasgow University and earned a PhD from Trinity College-Cambridge (1935.) He became a professor of applied economics at Glasgow (1951) and served as an economic adviser to the UK government (1961–64.) Later, he was Head of the Government Economic Service (1964–69) and Master of St Peter’s College-Oxford (1969–78.) He was Chancellor of the University of Glasgow (1972–96) and a Fellow of the British Academy (1961.)
