Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (b.1973) is an Indian actress and former Miss World, regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most influential figures. Her career spans decades, with acclaimed performances in Hindī and Tamiḻ films.
Born in Mangalore, Karnataka, she studied architecture before shifting to modeling, winning Miss World (1994,) launching her into global recognition. She débuted in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar (1997) and Hindī cinema with Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997.) She gained prominence with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999,) winning her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress, followed by Devdas (2002,) earning another.
Rai starred in Mohabbatein (2000,) Dhoom 2 (2006,) Guru (2007,) Jodhaa Akbar (2008,) Enthiran (2010,) and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016.) Recently, she appeared in Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022) and Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023,) historical epics based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel.
