Inspirational Quotes by Zadie Smith ((b.1975) English Novelist, Essayist, Short-story Writer)

Zadie Smith (b.1975,) formerly Sadie Smith, is an English novelist, essayist, and short-story writer. One of the leading present-day British novelists, she is celebrated not only for her treatment of race, religion, and cultural identity but also for her original characters, perceptive wit, and snappy dialogue.

Born in London, the daughter of a Jamaican mother and an English father, Smith began writing poems and stories as a child. While studying English literature at King’s College, Cambridge, she started writing her first novel White Teeth (published in 2000, when she was just 24.) A closely observed portrayal spanning 50 years and depicting three families from three cultures over three generations united in a working-class London suburb, White Teeth was an immediate bestseller.

Smith’s later bestselling novels, The Autograph Man (2002,) On Beauty (2005,) NW (2012,) and Swing Time (2016,) established her as one of the most exciting and successful British writers of the twenty-first century.

Smith edited and contributed to the short-story collection The Book of Other People (2007.) She published the essay collections Changing My Mind (2009) and Feel Free (2018) and the volume of short stories Grand Union (2019.)
