Inspirational Quotes by Vanessa Redgrave (British Actress)

Dame Vanessa Redgrave (b.1937) is an English actress of stage, TV, and screen and a political activist. She has received numerous accolades—including an Oscar, two Emmys, a Tony, and a Laurence Olivier Award—for her performances. She is a longtime political activist who supports the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Irish Republican Army (IRA.)

Born in London, Redgrave is the daughter of the actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson. Vanessa made her London stage début as Caroline Lester in A Touch of the Sun (1958.) She made her film début with her father in Behind the Mask (1958) and came to prominence with Blow-Up (1966.)

The first of her six Academy Award nominations were for Morgan! (1966.) an unbilled cameo as Anne Boleyn in A Man for All Seasons (1966) and her performance as Guinevere in Camelot (1967) secured her status as one of the most popular and respected actresses of the era. Later films include Isadora (1968) and The Seagull (1968.) Redgrave’s controversial performance as a Nazi concentration camp victim in Arthur Miller’s Playing for Time (1980) won her an Emmy Award. She received a Tony Award for Long Day’s Journey into Night (2003.) TV movie performances include The Go-Between (2015) and Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool (2017.)

An outspoken and controversial political activist, Redgrave supported the PLO and IRA. She also made many documentaries that reflect her beliefs, including The Fifth War (1978,) Occupied Palestine (1980,) Can’t They Put Humans First (1991; also director,) and Wake Up, World (1993.)
