Inspirational Quotes from the Holy Quran (Sacred Scripture of Islam)

The Holy Qurʼān, sometimes spelled Koran, is the holy book of Islām. It is composed of the revelations of the archangel Jibreel (Gabriel) to the Prophet Muhammad.

The Qurʼān was written in Arabic during the Prophet Muhammad’s life span, between c.610 and c.632. The revelations are set into 114 chapters (known as surahs) of varying lengths. Each surah commences with the words, “In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate.” The opening surah, the Surah Al-Fatiha, is recited as part of the Islāmic ritual prayer.

The divine revelations mention all aspects of human existence—the Qurʼān is regarded as an ethical guide (akhalaeq) for Muslims; it provides directives on righteous living and establishes many values, such as hospitality, honor, justice, integrity, and kindness. The five pillars of Islām—viz., an affirmation of the oneness of God, almsgiving, ritual prayer, fasting during Ramadan, and pilgrimage (hajj)—are underscored as ways of living morally.

Given that the Qurʼān is considered the direct and unmatched word of God, it is regarded as untranslatable. Any translation of the Qurʼān from Arabic to an alternative language or text is considered as an interpretation of the Qurʼān and cannot be used for liturgical purposes.
